Identifying Reproductions

page 2

Like a puzzle, you can put the pieces together and come up with your own conclusions.

Which figures are considered to be original?

In the sense of this article, original figures are composition figures produced by Hausser and Lineol up to the late 60s. Hausser went bankrupt in 1983 and Preisser took over the production line. However Preisser does not produce composition figures anymore.

Lineol produced composition figures after the war in East Germany. The trademark of Lineol is held by Ernst Duscha, who reproduces some of the old figures and has a large production line of newly developed figures of the old Lineol style. However, these figures however are made out of a material he calls 'high tech duroplast'. Whatever this is, it is not the old composition material.

High-Tech Duroplast Figure

Composition material and wire frame

The composition material used by of Hausser and Lineol consisted mainly of sawdust and glue. In the prewar figures there is no kind of plastic or artificial resin involved for the body of the figures. Only some of the postwar figures of Hausser use plastic heads and some music instruments are plastic too.
